Who doesn’t enjoy watching a demolition?
We worked with IBA Boston to capture the 2-week demolition of their former headquarters on 85 West Newton Street, a German Gothic-style church that was built in 1899 in Boston’s South End. Unfortunately, this historical building was no longer structurally sound and had to be torn down due to safety concerns.
IBA Boston is a really important and longstanding non-profit organization that provides high-quality affordable housing, education, and arts programs in the area.
Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción is a non-profit organization and a dynamic community development corporation that started in the South End neighborhood of Boston, to address displacement of low-income families due to urban development. IBA offers affordable housing and supportive programming to increase social and economic mobility for the families we serve.
We’ve worked with them in the past to capture the Latino Cultural Celebration, Festival Betances, which we hope we will be back in action again this year.
For this project, IBA was looking for a documentation of the demolition of their former headquarters to share with their members, donors and to have as a historical keepsake.
We visited the site and shot for 2 weeks, filmed tape lapses, action shots and brought the drone on 3 occasions to get some awesome arial views.
The result was this highlight video of the project that showcased the building and its demolition from start to finish.
IBA has begun the planning of a new community arts center at the same location. Having this historical documentation of what existed before will be really interesting to showcase down the road when the new community arts center is standing in its place.
